The term “cut and shut” is derived from an evil practice in the automotive industry in which two vehicles written off are welded together to form a “new” car that is sold to unsuspecting motorists. Now it seems that this “cut and shut” the practice is raising its ugly head in the elevator industry of the stairs. Announced as new or reconditioned models, suppliers of potentially dangerous these lanes are not intended to inform their clients of their real origin.

This practice is dangerous and we urge our readers to be especially attentive to respond to ads for “bargain” stairlifts. It is always better and safer than buying directly from the manufacturer or one of its authorized commercial distributors. If in doubt, always check with the manufacturer that its dealers are. Most companies offering this kind of “cut and close lanes usually only offer a warranty of 12 months due to the increased likelihood of problems.
